About Alongside Counseling

Alongside Counseling was created to reflect the way I view the counseling relationship. The metaphor I use for the counseling process is that of a long road trip. Life is filled with ups and downs, and it can sometimes be difficult to navigate on your own. As your counselor, you are inviting me into this journey. I am able to help you navigate challenges, find alternate routes of thinking, rejoice in the successes and beauties of the journey, guide you through unknown terrain, and give you a safe space to share emotions and experiences. At Alongside Counseling, the process of therapy mimics this safe environment where you can process difficult challenges, traumas, fears, and despair. You, the driver, are ultimately responsible for how you react and respond to the journey, make choices, change paths, but you do not have to do this alone. It is truly a gift to be alongside you on this journey to growth, healing, and self-realization.

Who I am

Morgan Vandermeer is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. She obtained her masters in clinical mental health counseling from UNC-Charlotte in 2018, and has been practicing for over 5 years. She is passionate about meeting each client where they are and tailoring counseling to meet each client’s individual needs. She aims to help clients identify their unique strengths and works together with them to reach health and healing.

She has a background and training in play therapy, an evidence-based approach to working with children ages 3-10. She also is trained in Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) and has worked with many parents to help their child thrive through parental interventions. She especially enjoys working with adolescents and teens, as this can be a challenging time as they learn about themselves and the world as they walk toward adulthood. She enjoys working with young adults and adults with issues such as anxiety, self-esteem and identity development, relationship struggles, trauma, grief, life transitions, family conflict, anger, depression, faith exploration, career counseling, and more. Morgan is also trained in Prepare & Enrich, a premarital assessment tool to help couples prepare for marriage.

Outside of work, Morgan enjoys spending time with her husband and her golden retriever, Brewer. She also enjoys swimming and boating at the lake, attending concerts, traveling, and trying new recipes.
